Messaging Policy

Last updated January 1, 1970.

Texting customers is regulated. This policy explains what the service does automatically and what your business is responsible for.

Consent

  • A person who calls your business and receives an automatic reply to that call is being answered, not marketed to.
  • Promotional messages — offers, review requests, rebooking nudges and win-back messages — require the customer's prior consent.
  • Never upload or message purchased, scraped or rented phone lists.
  • Keep a record of how and when each contact agreed to hear from you.

Identification

Messages sent through the service are branded as your business. The first message in a conversation identifies the business by name so the customer always knows who is texting them.

Opt-out handling

  • STOP, STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END and QUIT stop further messages to that number.
  • Opt-outs are applied automatically and immediately — no automated message will be sent to an opted-out number.
  • HELP returns your business name and support contact.
  • START or UNSTOP resumes messaging if the customer asks to be re-subscribed.
  • Do not attempt to work around an opt-out using another number.

Frequency and timing

Automatic replies are sent in response to a customer's call or message. Follow-ups are limited and stop when the customer replies or asks you to stop. Promotional messages should respect local quiet hours; replies to a customer's own inbound contact are not restricted in the same way.

Prohibited content

  • Illegal goods or services, including controlled substances and cannabis where prohibited
  • High-risk financial offers, payday loans, debt relief and get-rich-quick schemes
  • Gambling, adult content and hate speech
  • Deceptive, misleading or phishing content, including impersonating another business
  • Anything prohibited by your carrier or by law in the recipient's location

Costs and delivery

Message and data rates may apply to your customers. Delivery depends on carriers and is not guaranteed. Carriers may filter or block messages that appear to be spam.

Enforcement

We may pause messaging, throttle sending or suspend an account that violates this policy, carrier rules or applicable law.
